So, we should just rebrand Solaris Express OpenSolaris? I thought you
wanted it to be a community distribution? -ian

I'm not at all opposed to multiple distributions as long as
they're compatible with each other. And even if they're not, that's fine
too, as long as they're not called OpenSolaris (which implies
compatibility--to earlier points, lineage from a common source
base doesn't mean much).
So if it's compatibility you're after, why not just call Solaris
Express: (Community|Developer) Edition "OpenSolaris", after all, it's
the one which most closely resembles Solaris, and call Indiana
something else?
Good point. What keeps happening (for a month now) is broken-record
syndrome. It goes like this:
"The problem is, Solaris Express today isn't friendly
enough. The solution is obvious, it needs to be phased
out in favor of a more Linux friendly Solaris Express."
That quickly grows to a rally cry. Subsequently a few flesh-and-blood
Nevada engineers surface here for a moment and pose concerns mostly about
execution. Not surprisingly (considering the source of these posts) those
concerns are pretty irrefutable, and as such, go unanswered. The engineer
says to him/herself: "Hmm, ok, I guess that's that", and he/she
un-surfaces. (Which is to say, tunes out indiana-discuss so they can direct
their energies to their regular project work -- but remains on standby
until
their insights are needed again.)
- Then, lo and behold, after a little while, the point is repeated here as
if for the 1st time:
"The problem is, Solaris Express today isn't friendly
