Now, this is extremely puzzling. Are you saying that Sun is now pulling back, and will now somehow try to prevent the other non-Sun distributions from continuing and potentially diverging? At least by saying that their existence is not desired?
No, I'm explaining my position, since I was criticized earlier for not doing that. I'm not at all opposed to multiple distributions as long as they're compatible with each other. And even if they're not, that's fine too, as long as they're not called OpenSolaris (which implies compatibility--to earlier points, lineage from a common source base doesn't mean much). In fact, I view multiple distributions in the mold of Ubuntu, Kubuntu, Xbuntu etc. as quite useful--it allows the main distro to stay focused rather than trying to be all things to all people. Bottom line, to promote compatibility, "OpenSolaris" has to mean something more than just "a pile of code". -ian -- Ian Murdock 650-331-9324 http://ianmurdock.com/ "Don't look back--something might be gaining on you." --Satchel Paige _______________________________________________ indiana-discuss mailing list [email protected] http://opensolaris.org/mailman/listinfo/indiana-discuss
