NREMT Announces Plan to Incorporate Revised AHA Guidelines on NREMT Exams
The National Registry of EMTs has announced plans to incorporate the 2005 American Heart Association Guidelines for CPR and Emergency Cardiovascular Care into all its examinations by January 1, 2007. Exams offered in the interim will be constructed so that candidates will not be penalized for being trained in either the 2000 or the 2005 AHA Guidelines for CPR and Emergency Cardiovascular Care.
High Percentage of Contamination Found in "Cleaned" Trauma Equipment
A recent study emphasizes the need for all EMS providers to reassess their decontamination practices. Equipment from the emergency departments of six hospitals and three regional ambulance services in the UK was tested for blood contamination. Despite traditional cleaning and disinfection practices, the study found that there was still a high percentage of contaminated ambulance equipment.
Heat Wraps May Decrease EMS Work-Associated Low Back Pain
The regular motions of bending and lifting, and twisting and lifting, performed by EMS workers often results in lower back pain, despite training in and practice of proper lifting techniques. However, a recent study showed that the use of thermal heat wraps resulted in a significant reduction in low back pain.
