You're extrapolating from a condition that fits your view (tracking 1
vehicle). The point that I and others are making is that being able to
cross-reference VIN and IP address will lead to the ability for
various actors to be able to track massive numbers of vehicles. Some
of those folks will also have access to the VIN database (whether they
are state-sponsored, crackers, or "other") which leads to a whole new
level of privacy violation.

So if I know the VIN number of the vehicle I'm interested in, all I
have to do is get on the network and figure out where it's originating
its traffic from, and now I can dramatically narrow down its location,
if not pinpoint it with a high degree of accuracy.

I've run out of adjectives to describe how bad of an idea this is. I
find it hard to believe that you're not seeing the problems here.
