I just said that because I realize that I don't know how, nor do I
suspect I have the karma, so figured a little tickler like thi would do

What do you mean, a 'global' version number?
Ah, if we construct a mega-jar of the current component releases? Good
question.
Can we avoid that? Just make sure each component is a separately
numbered release jar?

cactus-1.2.jar
etc?
