My main criteria for who I'm willing to talk to in the car is whether or

If you're talking to someone on the phone who is in their car, and they
don't come across as rude and distracted, it is probably best to hang up
and let them drive. If they are only part there, they are probably
spending the necessary effort focusing on the driving.

My only criteria, even though I now have a Bluetooth ear piece, is whether or not I feel traffic is light enough for me to talk. 99.9% of the time, I don't answer the phone while I'm driving. For most situations (e.g. - a server is down and my attention is needed), it's enough to know someone (or something) is wanting my attention.

It pisses my wife off, but too bad. I often hear "Why didn't you answer, you have Bluetooth?!" My answer is, "I was too busy to answer. Sorry for staying alive."
