Oh, wait, how is it that one can log into another GUI session on a

If you're using gdm, try gdmflexiserver.
I'm going to have to go back to previous posts to try to figure out the
context of this.
That is SOOOOO KEWL! (Why does vc8 get skipped? I've always wanted to
know.)
Whoa, hang on. That doesn't go very far for me. gdmflexiserver from a
virtual console seems to be fine until after I enter my name and
password, but then it disappears and drops me back to my GUI on vc7.
When I log in on vc3 and try to run gdmflexiserver, I get this error:
gdmflexiserver[1328]: Gtk-WARNING: cannot open display:
I get the same error if I use:
$ gdmflexiserver :1
or
$ gdmflexiserver -- :1

Liberty consists less in acting according to one's own pleasure, than in
not being subject to the will and pleasure of other people. It consists
also in our not subjecting the wills of other people to our own.
