Yes, I guess that is a reasonable possibility. 

It would be nice if the frequency of updates was increased after a change was 
detected. i.e. Update every 30 s or so, but if an "event" (new battery put in, 
power removed, applied, machine just booted) then the updates took place every 
3 seconds for the next minute. If I've just pulled one battery out, there is a 
good change I intend putting another in - especially if I want to check the 
charge level on several. Likewise, if the machine has just booted, I'd probably 
want to know soon what the battery level is. 

But obviously a better solution is the one like windows, where the updates are 
"instant" all the time.
