As an Irishman I must say that Stan was SHOCKING as the boss of the Rep, absolutely downright WOEFUL. The only people sad to see him go were the ENDLESS comics - particularly "N0b Nation" on RTE 2FM who had a guy who mimic-ed him down to a tee...
It's a moderately fair point that expectations for the Rep are/were above their station, and those of you who are aware of a certain Eamon Dunphy will get what I'm saying. Dunphy (and several others) seems to think that Ireland have the players of Brazil calibre and can play champagne football every week, and made his living being entirely unfair in his SAVAGE criticism of both the latter years of Big Jack, and particularly Mick McCarthy. Personally, I'd have Mick McCarthy back in a heartbeat - we really could have done something in 2002 had his Roy-ness not cleared off - but when it comes to Stan, it's hard to disagree with even the professional whingers: he was fekkn desperate. Looking at things from afar - so I could be very wrong - I think the wheels have fallen off the wagon, the horses have bolted and the horizon is one endless line of indians about to attack i.e. for this season, we're fcuked. Only a full overturning of the -15pts can save us now, and I think we'll have global warming cracked before that happens. But I just can't help this feeling we'd have been better employing La La from the Teletubbies. Verner Tim Leslie <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: All joking aside. Let's (for now) forget Saturday. What have we got in place? A manager who played International football and has some managerial experience. Been out of the game due to circumstances for 18 months, good footballer who as far as I remember was just starting to turn it round at Cov when he had to pack it in. Played football (properly!) so should be able to get the midfield playing. An assistant manager who played International football and has managerial experience. Went too far too fast and failed miserably at international level, though many RoI fans seem to forget that they did absolutely zip prior to Big Jack and maybe expectation levels are too high (Is that a 'light blue touch paper' moment I wonder!?). Has he his coaching badges? Was a defender so should be able to help out there. So where are we? IMHO we've (on paper) a decent managerial set up, both young, successful players at the top level, both (hopefully) keen to prove themself for differing reasons. Let's not reach for the guns yet eh? Wouldn't it benefit all if we took Saturday as the true end of the Wise era and looked forward?
