Oval may have been the wrong word, what you will end up with will be close to 
the same shape you would have for log siding

That's a great tip!  I have been thinking along those lines for making
deck balusters.  I've been milling both sides of the 1.5 inch thick
pilasters creating somewhat of an oval effect.  You have made it plain
on how to take this all the way oval or as far as one might one to
go.
