Barbara, Please would you be good enough to clarify exactly when the start up stops to work. In your first post you say that you receive an error message "problem caused the program to stop working", is that the full message? If there is an error number please can you let us have it. I assume that you have only tried opening using the desktop icon, there are a couple of other things which you may like to try: 1) go to C:\Legacy folder and double click the Legacy.exe icon and 2) go to C\Legacy\Data and double click your .fdb file. BTW. I am not clear as to whether Legacy has ever run on your WIN7 machine?
As you have found out, your thoughts on how to install V6 were correct, however uninstalling does not remove all the files. Park your Legacy\Data folder somewhere convenient (Documents will do fine) as this contains your .fdb file and backup - unless you have stuck it somewhere else. Also park in the same place any .USR files which you wish to keep - they are listed in Help (Search for ".usr" (no quotes). Now uninstall and delete the Legacy folder from C:\Legacy. Reinstall and run, and open the sample file. If all is well replace the data folder with the one you parked. If all is still OK replace the .usr files with the ones which you saved, one at a time and testing after each one. Please let us know the outcome. Either of these would tell that the install was OK and therefore it must be you database that is corrupt. ..Paul Melbourne, Australia --- On Mon, 8/4/13, BK Ford <[email protected]> wrote: From: BK Ford <[email protected]> Subject: Re: [LegacyUG] Panic! I uninstalled through the Control Panel, even downloaded it again from the web site and executed the install file afresh. It still returns the same error. I'm wondering if something is corrupted in my data, because how could a fresh install give that error? <Http://scrappermamo.blogspot.com/> Sent from my iPad On Apr 7, 2013, at 7:39 PM, "Helle Hirschmann" <wlmailhtml:/mc/[email protected]> wrote: Barbara. I feel so sorry for you loosing your mother - it is never time - we want to keep them as long as we are here. It is an excellent idea to work on her obituary - then you DO something worthwhile. Then to your problem. When you un uninstalled Legacy did you then also delete it in the control panel under adding and removing programs. I used to use another version of Windows myself and have just started using Windows 7 - and I can not remember what it is called on W7. IF you have not done that the old version is still there - it is just the shortcut key you removed. Hope this may help you solve your problem. If you have an earlier back-up version of your file it may not have the same problem. Just a suggestion. Best wishes. It let me do that, but I got the same error. So, I uninstalled from my computer and reinstalled. Same error. Help?????? I am so upset... I just tried to go into my Legacy program, and it is telling me that a "problem caused the program to stop working." I tried several times, including a reboot. I use Windows 7 now and have successfully migrated from computer to computer several times since I began using Legacy. I am still using Version 6, and for now that is what I want to continue to do. I am working on an obituary right now for my mother, who is in her last few days. So, no time for anything but the simplest solutions here. Of all times for the program to crash.... May I just say what I THINK will work, and someone please tell me if this will not work. I have a note to myself, from my last computer upgrade, that says, "Rather than using the CD to install the program, go to http://www.legacyfamilytree.com/ and download and install the latest version of Legacy 6." (Will it be obvious to me where version 6 is?) Then I have another note that says "make sure the Legacy folder is on C: and install the program also to C:/Legacy; the program will pick up all my preferences and file data." Is this correct still? If this is correct, then should I uninstall Legacy from this computer first?
