Hi Shirley, I have been a user of Legacy since v4. The changes only add fields to the data structure to accommodate new features. Since I first downloaded Legacy and installed it, Millennia has changed the database structure 4 or 5 times with no impact to my data.
There are a few reported problems that are probably in the process of being fixed. One is the tabs in the notes being changed to spaces. This is the only impact to data that I have ever seen. And for me, this isn't a problem as I don't have any tabs in my notes. There are others who use tabs a lot to line up columns of information. This would impact them greatly. I haven't had any impact to my data in any of the upgrades I have done. I am now at Legacy 6.0.0.60 Deluxe. I have newer hardware and am running on Windows XP sp2. Although I have been doing genealogy for 50+ years and using a computer for about 20 years, I am quite new to Legacy. I am using V5 Standard dated April 2005 but the more I use Legacy the more I realize that I need to upgrade to Deluxe. After reading the messages about V6, I think I am not ready to try its complexities until I have more experiece. That leaves me with upgrading to V5 Deluxe. I am concerned about the change in file format that occurred in the August build. What changes in my database will be visible to me in an upgrade? Any problems that I might incur? My database has over 12000 individuals, and I really don't want to mess them up.
