Sherry is 100% right. Test your backups.
I will never get rid of my paper copies even if I could scan every scrap
of paper onto a 20 bazillion Gigabyte drive or storage medium.
I regard paper copies as the ultimate deep backup. Time consuming
to restore from, you betcha, but it's better than losing it all.

I have copies of my files in both Legacy and FTM. There are copies on
Hard disks on four different computers as well as an external hard drive
that is usually physically close to my main computer at home, but pull the
the USB and power cables and it goes anywhere. I have genealogy files
on a "key" drive. I have regular backups on CD-Roms. Some of these
CDs are in the same room as the computer. Some are in another room.
Some are with relatives in other states. Multiple media, multiple formats
(GEDCOM, Legacy, FTM, Generations) multiple places.
And I still keep the paper copies.

And yes I sometimes load a CD-ROM just to see if I can get to the old
backup files.
