Marian, I thought so also and I have to admit that this "recommendation" I did not hear first hand. Be that as it may, we are certainly heading down the RHEL path at the moment.

We all have our preferences, but I am strongly forbidden to tell customer which distribution to use. The only difference is if the support matrix shows support only for one vedor, which happens from time to time.
