The T (and P) must be ignored by GSM phones according to GSM 07.07. And
always using country code is recommended to avoid having to change scripts
or phonebook entries when abroad (the modem I am dialling is in the same 
room as me, so the country code isn't really required :-). I have tried 
the combinations you suggest with the same result. Sorry that I didn't give
this information in the first mail.

I have also had more luck using the latest 2.2 kernels, but I never got to a 
point where success was guaranteed. Are you saying that IrCOMM never hangs
when you are using 2.2.9-irda2?
