Yeah, it wouldn't take a genius to figure out that Setsuna was more than just a "random kid".  But what got me wondering was how Graham even knew he was there in the first place, since iirc Setsuna managed to hide before Graham and Billy arrived.

 

(hmm...  Graham?  Billy?  Billy Graham?  Interesting...  coincidence?  Probably.  I wouldn't expect the Japanese writers to be familiar with American evangelists.)

Well, I think Graham is more perceptive than anything else. There is no
way a kid would be out in that area unless he's a soldier, or at the
very least a scout. And if he's a fighter pilot as well as a mecha
pilot, one of his prerequisites for being where he is now would be
outstanding visual acuity.
