cool .. until a few months ago I worked at the BBC with Paul Vanezis, the
main advocate of the Dr Who restoration stuff, and assisted on a various
bits of the telecine and quad work. Its suprising how much of the
original studio recordings exist, and much of the material on the master
tapes was reconstructed by re-editing from the original recordings. All
the location stuff was on film and that too existed (although quite a
bit got junked a few years ago. ) and our modern telecine was used to
provide much sharper results than the orignal stuff. ISTR we even did a
bit of dolby surround on one or two episodes just for a bit of fun.
I was chatting with him only the other day about how they persuaded
whats-his-face who was the Brigadier to do a load of voice over work for
some of the new releases ... apparrently he still loks much the same even
though MUCH older.
