I would certainly be interested in some of the "juicy examples" you mention, Stuart. And I will definitley look into Jon Banks - what he has written and what the Lute Society has published. For other "juicy examples" in modern notation (but with some lovely examples of the original notation in the introduction), have you seen (or do you own) "French Secular Music of the Late Fourteenth Century" edited by Willi Apel?
