Thanks. I see the point now. By using some sort of shell extension, LyX does not have to extract all files to open some of them. I guess this is what you were trying to achieve with your directory-in-a-file idea. I do not know how LyX would be able to do that in a platform independent way though. Windows (or MacOS) can only do such things to files with a zip suffix. Only MacOS provides that directory-in-a-file magic. Maybe because my mind is limited by the OS I use (linux), I did not understand or appreciate any of these fancy features. Cheers, Bo
