Hi, Mohamed,

Thanks for your interest! We're always happy to have new contributors.

As you may know, we are currently working towards LyX 2.5.0, so much of the work being done right now is bug fixing on that release. And a good way to get started---the way I got started---is to find some bug that annoys you and have a go at it. You are of course welcome to ask questions here, or on the bug tracker, about where to start looking in the codebase for any particular bug. It can be hard to find your way around at the beginning.

Unfortunately, there isn't really a guide to the code. I keep thinking about writing some kind of general guide to how LyX works but just never get around to it. You will find a file Development.lyx in the doc/ subdirectory of your LyX installation, and in the git tree, which contains some coding guidelines we try to follow, and that will be worth a look.

Dear LyX Development Team,

My name is Mohamed Raed Boukari, and I am a 22-year-old Electrical and Computer Engineering student from Tunisia, currently completing my engineering diploma at ESPRIT University, accredited by EUR-ACE/CTI. I also hold a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from ISET Bizerte.

I recently organized a university workshop on LyX at my former institution (ISET Bizerte), helping final-year students use LyX for their scientific and engineering reports. The department later shared this event officially on its page, which made me even more motivated to give back to the LyX community.

I use LyX extensively for scientific writing, conference papers, and academic reports, and I would like to contribute to the project — particularly in areas such as:

 *

    Improving or translating documentation,

 *

    Testing and user feedback,

 *

or possibly creating templates for academic reports.

I would be grateful for your guidance on how to start contributing effectively. Please let me know which area would be most useful for the team at the moment.

Thank you for developing such an amazing tool that helps researchers and students worldwide.
I would be honored to take part in its improvement.

Warm regards,

*Mohamed Raed Boukari*
