Shawn, I don't know what Mac OS version you're using but you can
always build your own modem script for maximum speed and connection
reliability.
Try a Google search and you come up with some sites for doing so such as:
http://www.56k.com/inits/
You should also be able to 'look' at your PC modem file and maybe
even use parts or all of it, for you Mac modem script you use, using
a normal text editor.
The 'MacaRa Modem Magic' http://www.mac56ktest.com/macara50.html is
considered by many as a bit of a rip-off (snake oil???) , but you may
get something from the site.
But don't forget your dial-up ISP who may already have some
ready-made scripts for you to use that are fully compatible and
efficient with their equipment and yours.
Unfortunately, Apple still doesn't provide a decent method of
modifying modem init scripts and the FreePPP that was available for
previous OS X systems started to break with OS 9.x with some Mac
models.

I just wanted to thank all that offered suggestions. I changed from
the Apple v92 to the Apple v34 script. I connect much quicker,
first time every time. I am still at 26400 but I can live with
that. To think I have been suffering through this unnecessarily for
almost 2 years.

Kevin,
The main problem is the difficulty connecting. I have to try 8-10
times with my eMac where my laptop PC connects the first time,
everytime.
