Data Rescue

A few months back I moved my computer, and then did my normal routinue of transfering pictures from a compact flash card (and when it is finished each file, it deletes it off the card) - well, this was the first time it ever failed - and I didn't trust it for the first few months, but it proved rock solid. Looked like it copied them, but when the transfer was finished I couldn't find them anywhere on the disk.

I fretted, researched, downloaded s/w and asked questions of everyone for a couple days. In the end it was only Data Rescue X that managed to salvage a large portion of the images (no names, but the data was there). Actually brought back data off the card that should have been wiped and destroyed many times over. i.e., I'd completely filled the card numerous times to capacity, and multiple formats, etc. Still brought back stuff. Creepy.

SO BEWARE of what discs you leave behind...
