Because this situation regularly comes up it's worth posting these
messages to the list.

As for changing thread titles... it's a bloody nuisance. At least if
the thread name is the same I can conveniently delete or ignore it.
With a million and one bracketed name changes the number of messages
just grows (which is why I'm not changing this thread title, even
though I'm sure you'd want me to).

Whether it's worth posting your (or now my) type of response is a
completely different question...
