I don't know why though... I think it has a lot to do with running
a 1280x1024 display off a slow-ish graphics chip with only 32MB of

330MHz speed defecit vs my overclocked mini... Which is one of the
reasons my master plan is to get hold of a Digital Audio or
Quicksilver logic board, a fast dual CPU upgrade, put it into my
already adapted ATX case (where my B&W currently lives - I'm sure
it wouldn't mind being returned to it's own case) and flash my
'spare' AGP GeForce 6800 Ultra (I've since moved to PCIe on the PCs
and can't bare to part with a 10 month old graphics card that cost
£300!)
Might be, on the other hand it could be the Mac mini is just a very
slow system on the whole - it's not exactly a speed optimised
architecture...
Whatever made you give up Amigas???
Photoshop! Well, actually, The fact that the Amiga (My last one was
an A1200) was basically a dead end system - it was in fact upgraded
to a 33MHz '040 and 32MB of RAM, which was much faster than the
680EC040 in the 630 at 20MHz w/20MB of RAM (Though I did swap it
for a full '040 later on) but none of the good commercial software
houses supported the platform anymore.
True, but they never really stopped being useful machines. I know a
guy in our Local Amiga user group that has used nothing but Amigas
since 1992 and swears by them. He does everything most people do
using an Amiga 4000. Pretty impressive. I suppose if you're a
professional and need specialist Apps then it's maybe not the way
forward, but it's not a dead end by any means.
Actualy, the Performa 630 was one of the worst computer purchases
I've made! PowerPC Macs became commonplace within a few months and
there was no software being released for it after 18. I should have
just kept the Amiga. The PowerMac 5400/225 I eventually replaced it
with was a much better machine, although the built in monitor was
always a limitation.
Anything with a Performa badge on usually was...
