Andy, Well, on behalf of all of the progressives in the UK who chose to stay in unity, I say, good for you!
It looks like the SNP will declare another referendum. You should be on board when that happens to decide whether you want to be in union with the Westminster establishment and the isolationist majority of this dank little island, or not. I for one will be happy for you if you decide you want out. You can leave us, and stay in the EU. Ms Sturgeon will sit at table with Sadiq Khan (London mayor) in order to negotiate Britain’s position with the EU; London (which is where I am) was also hit very hard by a majority Remain vote. What saddens me most are some of the reasons people have given for leaving. Many of the working poor wanted to leave not because they have any great beef with the institutions of Europe, but because they want to undercut the rich who benefit from free movement of EU citizens. Of all the things you need to justify tearing up the foundations of this country, this one has to be among the most bitter and desperate imaginable, because the people who will be hit the hardest are—you guessed it—the working poor. Immigration will simply be from other non-EU countries, and the labour rights drawn up by the EU to protect these poor little Englanders won’t be there to protect them any more. I am hoping for a miracle just now. Ahem. Right, I’ll try and stay quiet on this issue now.
