That's nice: I agree it addresses also some problems which we don't have in the tablets, good for it. But I must say that the spot summary in the web page doesn't convey the fact that it addresses also problems that we do have in the tablets. At least: - it takes the system clean: user runs apps without "installing" them, and the eventual removal is a real purge without residuals chance; why on a modern super-connected and internet-based device should we go into an installation step to use *every* application, even a little gtk tris game, if a way to avoid it already exist and is free to adopt? I agree in some special cases it would be required (infact I've proposed Zero Install as a supplement to the other "more dirty" way), but it should not be the rule; - it takes the system easy to clean, as everything has its own dir; nice for desktops, but very good (maybe I should put an exclamation mark) for consumer tablets; - it makes an effortless and 99.9% probability of success the system backup and restore task, with all applications and settings, especially after a reflash; it would be also possible to selectively choose what apps to backup, or to backup just the settings and data and the list of feeds for later redownload, or... (just fly with imagination, everything's possible here because everything is there in its cache dir ;) Maybe (I hope) these problems will be addressed in some future in some way, no matter if through Zero Install or another solution, but I just want to say that they were solvable yesterday with the Zero Install way. Of course they will, it's a matter of time (as long as someone else cares about these problems - gulp I'm not sure enough :) Btw, thanks for the evaluation, it is already good you've gone into the trouble of reading something about it, as said it seems it's a rather unknown and undervalued system (maybe due to similarity to badly designed systems - but it's just my guess). -- Antonio _______________________________________________ maemo-developers mailing list maemo-developers@maemo.org https://lists.maemo.org/mailman/listinfo/maemo-developers
