For the time being, my opinion is that treating mythology (in the best sense) as if it were merely history, peering through loopholes in the hopes of uncovering some subterfuge, is unlikely to be a productive approach. Of course you may be able to piece together factual points in a pattern more rational than the dominant narrative, but so what?
