Agree with your reply about the Beveridge reforms, Hari - and, by extension, all reforms in the advanced capitalist countries which must necessarily must also be of benefit to the ruling class if they are to be implemented at least in part by the state.
The answer I'm looking for more relates to the PRC where, as you know, I believe there to still be some continuity through the CPC with the 1949 revolution which overthrew capitalism. I believe you, Charlie, and perhaps Dan and others see the PRC as "state capitalist" in the same way as are Malaysia, Saudi Arabia, India and the other predominantly state-owned economies.China and Russia only differ in that they are imperialist rivals to the US rather than allies. Do I correctly understand your position? In reply to Michael, I too have supported and continue to support struggles against US imperialism and its allies by movements led by other than left-wing forces - most notably, in Palestine today. However, there is no question that my support for the Vietnamese, Cuban, Nicaraguan, and other anti-imperialist struggles in our lifetime was very much influenced by the fact that their leaders, programs, and the political consciousness of their base were inspired by the Marxist tradition. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Groups.io Links: You receive all messages sent to this group.
