The Soviet Union: • put an end to the disastrous famines that racked Russia throughout its tsarist history • educated a largely illiterate people who became world renowned for their enthusiasm for good literature and for their contributions to the sciences • industrialized in the 1930s and the decade after WW2 without creating a class of capitalists • defeated the Nazi war machine with historic dedication, sacrifice, and military skill • provided the world communist movement with invaluable experience to learn what to do and what not to do on the socialist path to communism "Fight, fail, fight again, fail again, fight again ... until victory; that is the logic of the people... This is another Marxist law. The Russian people's revolution followed this law."
