It is indeed astonishing to see such a thing. Those lawmakers may well have intelligence as to the morale within the armed forces. The antics of "War Secretary" Hegseth's have likely angered many in the officer corps. It is that officer corps that was probably the intended audience. I don't think these "National Security" Democrats expect or want enlisted soldiers to disobey orders to sink boats in the Caribbean. Rather, the statement is probably in response to bureaucratic infighting within the Pentagon. These particular pols would not have made the statement for the sake of making it and certainly not out of any "conscience."
