I think so too. I learned recently that the Oath of Allegiance to the 
Constitution is different for officesr than enlisted soldiers who pledge 
"...and that I will obey the orders of the President of the United States and 
the orders of the officers appointed over me." That's not in the Oath for US 
military officers, which substitutes: "...that I take this obligation freely, 
without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and 
faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter."

I believe all of the Democratic Party members of Congress who served in the 
military were officers. Perhaps they were hoping for commanding officers who 
might keep hundreds of soldiers off the streets with one refused order rather 
than going at it one soldier at a time.
