Forget the lens cleaner unless you want  to buy  a new MD
recorder/player soon.  They can scratch the lens and destroy it if used
regularly.  The only time you might consider using one is if the MD
doesn't work any more and it is old enough that it isn't worth taking in
for repair.  In that case you can give the lens cleaner a try and it may
work and it may not.   

Your best bet, if the MD is acting up and skipping or otherwise
exhibiting dirt on the lens, is to blow it out gently with clean
compressed air.
