Dont forget to remove the brake calipers, leave the hydraulic line
connected.

You dont have to remove the steering link but you will have to lever the
lower control arm down to get enough freedom to release the lower end of the
strut from its seating in the steering arm. Do the lower end first so the
weight of the strut is held at the top. The spring is captive until the
strut is out, but you may need to compress it to undo the top, if that is
what the adjustable bit replaces.

One NOT RECOMMENDED way is to compress the strut in the tower with a trolley
jack after disconnecting the bottom end. Slowly lower it with extreme
caution after undoing the central nut at the top. This is dangerous and is a
last resort option. Better option is to buy a set of spring compressors -
Kmart has them for about $15. Not long lasting but they are safer. Grease
the treads well before using.

Then you can cut, er fit lower springs, swap springs and have fun
experimenting with ride hight and stiffness as well as geometry.
