You've gotta love the smell of burning plastic as your wiring melts. Most IR Alternators have the field choke diode built into the reg pack, but Hitachi in their wisdom in their early IR Alternators didn't do this and for some strange reason it is in the dash wiring. The PN for these alternators is the 23000-Rxxxx series and they were found on Zeds, R30, S12's and the likes, mainly 80's stuff - later Hitachi's are regulated in the conventional manner.

I had a problem a couple of years back when my charge light would come on, it eventually kept fusing out the fuse wire for the alternator, the auto sparky said a crook diuode could do that, its not nice when in traffic and the car stops and a heap of smoke pours out of the bonnet. New Alternator fixed it though : ) --membersozdat------------------------------------------------------- OZDAT Mailing List Please Note:- Send (un)subscribe requests to [EMAIL PROTECTED] Send submissions to [EMAIL PROTECTED] No unauthorised redistribution of this email http://www.ozdat.com/ozdatonline/index.htm http://www.ozdat.com/ozdatonline/listindex.html http://www.mail-archive.com/[email protected]/ ---------------------------------------------------------------------
