Nick, The material that the valve seats are made out of determine if an engine is designed to be run on unleaded or leaded fuel.
Steel hardened seats are required for unleaded, brass, alloy etc require lead for lubrication. regards Terry -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]]On Behalf Of [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Tuesday, 26 March 2002 5:00 PM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Re: Unleaded fuel in L20B When ppl say that the S2 motor won't run on unleaded, what exactly do they mean? My S2 engine runs absolutely fine on regular unleaded, it pings a bit when it is very hot and pulling hard up a hill in a high gear - but it is better than almost every other car that I have driven in that respect. It runs 18 degrees BTDC static timing, twin carbies and is mildly modified. I have not needed to adjust the valve clearances because of seat wear or anything, last checked about 6 months ago though! Of course I use PULP for club motorsport duties.
