Hi Mark, Given the symptoms you are suggesting is it possible you have incorrectly hooked up wiring to the dash illumination (most modern cars have provision for hooking the head unit into the dash illumination circuit, to dim the headunit when you turn on your headlights etc).
Might be easiest to solve this prob with an examination of the wiring diag - Ive found public libraries generally have workshop manuals for any common car you need a wiring diag for. You are in Melb yeah? And the N12 pulsar is the square little one with the holden/camira engine? If so, I think we have a workshop manual/wiring diag for that at home.
