That's a thought! I'd forgotten about Bootcamp. I'll probably get around
to
a dual system after becoming more familiar with Apple software, etc.
Over the years I've found that three working computers are almost a
necessity
because of the lightning transients in this area. I have nearly everything
powered
through Panamax surge protectors which are supposed to be the best, but
nothing seems to stop the transient voltages generated by the almost daily
summer storms. So far, the laptops haven't been hit like the old desktops
were regularly. Not sure if that's coincidence or that laptops are more
resistant.

I can understand the support issues. When I moved from Window to Mac a few
years ago I still needed to run Windows applications so I converted my
work
issued laptop to a virtual machine that I could use with VMWare Fusion.
In
my case I converted a Windows partition (bootcamp) to a virtual machine,
but
VMWare now has software you can install on the Windows machine and it will
create a virtual machine on your Mac. It even will sync the two, so if
you're writing a document in Word on the Windows machine while VMWare is
creating the image, you'll have the most recent save on your virtual
machine!

Difficult to say since it only happens occasionally and the
test programs show no problems.
Also, it would be nice to have a faster PC with more memory
and a dual cpu; neither of which the Compaq has.

Hard drive going flaky? or something on the board?

Speaking of computer reliability, my Compaq laptop, which has been used

of
the bullet proof models that
have been discussed on this list.
The new MacBook works great (seven hours of battery time) but I use it
off the desk, plugging and unplugging would be a pain, and I'm still
learning my way around it with resultant loss of speed.
Was it the Lenovo (Thinkpad) that was judged to be the best PC laptop?
Thanks,
