I shared a $75/month huge 2 BR apt. walking distance from the Minneapolis campus of the U of M back in grad school. Life was really cheap there. Next year I had my own basement apt. near the St. Paul campus for $90/mo IIRC. The landlord purchased my 1959 Volvo for $325 cash when I left decided to join the Peace Corps.
