On the diesel I thought that the vacuum signal mainly affected the
"firmness" of the shift not the shift point itself.  I could be wrong
about that though.

On my 300D the modulator diaphragm is leaking so I don't get any vacuum
signal to the transmission.  It shifts very firmly as a result.
