The biggest problem with straight veggie oil without heat in cold weather is that it is so thick the injector pump can't pump it through the injectors. We all know liquids don't compress so something has to give. Usually it is the drive gear or shaft on the injector pump. MBZ engines use very robust injector pumps comared to the VW's and other so they tend to hold up much better. That said, I have run several thousand miles on a 75%VO to25% diesel blend in the 240D that I recently sold(I belive it is still going...Mac?) with no adverse reactions at all. The worst thing is that it takes you forever to get anywhere because everywhere you go there are people that just "need to know" why the exhaust on your car smells so good.

This guy doesn't have any sort of injector heaters or anything?

If so, that's great. Most anyone I've heard of in other countries are
at least using some sort of heat at or near the injector pump.

The Mercedes are about the best there are from what I've heard, but that
cold oil on cold engines tends to build up from everything I've heard.
I forget which list it was on, but someone had "official" test results
from a while ago that pretty much showed that vegoil killed every engine
they ran it in, just in varying lengths of time depending on the engine.
However, they weren't heating it at all.

I haven't heard of ATF coking you up though. I've heard that actually
CLEANS things out, not vice-versa...

There's a guy in Wales UK that has been running 100% veggie for years
with no probs. In some places in Germany you will have great difficulty
finding oil as it's much cheaper than diesel.

You may be confusing this with BioD issues with hoses perhaps?

Keep in mind that a lot of people are diddling with stuff they no
nothing about and are possibly causing their own problems. Maybe he was
advised to do the old trucker thing of regularly adding ATF to his tank.
That'll coke you up.
