Hello Ron,

I was in Florida last November and we did what Geoff mentioned. We bought a
satnav at bestbuy (tomtom XL for $60) and used it during that trip. Afterwards
I sold it at Ebay for 75€. So it was not so expensive ;-) You can order things
at bestbuy from Europe by phone. They store these things for you at least 8
days plus additional 8 days if necessary. I think other shops like walmart,
target and Wolf’s camera have a similar service. To buy a navi in the US and
sell it afterwards is always cheaper than hiring it. Our company would have
charged $10 per day “but not more than $120”. For $120 it would had been able
to buy a luxury navi.

Bad guys use maps which they source in the internet. That is cheap but not
legal.

Keep mogging,

Christian

Having driven Denver-Seattle-San Diego-Denver in 2010 I would thoroughly
recommend a sat-nav for the trip. It is cheaper to buy one and take it with you
than hire one from the car hire thieves companies.

Super in finding your way to pre-booked hotels and useful in that it had a
'which is the nearest hotel/motel' and 'nearest filling station' guide.

I had no trouble with a Tom Tom Go 930 but I have had a Garmin and they are
good, too.

Just extending the enquiry on sat nav devices a little, I'm planning a trip to
the West Coast USA later this year ( sadly not in the Mog). Any views on
whether a satnav is worth getting versus local maps; and if so whats the
current fave? i imagine that finding our way across great stretches of desert
isnt too taxing with a map, but I can foresee that LA might be!
