Ron,
Buying a GPS here in the US is a good idea. There are other brands here
but you probably would want to stick with a Garmin or Tom Tom. If you
are familiar with one or the other I would stick with that brand. The
learning curve on operating it would not be nearly as steep then.
Another consideration is that there is no VAT here. Most states have a
sales tax which varies but nowhere near as much as your VAT. One thing
to look at is the charger. Most of the new models run on vehicle power
or USB but some of the older models have a charger that plugs in to
house current (110V/60HZ here). Not much use when you get back home.
