Larry, did you use a backing plate for the TT3X? Plywood?  Does it seem

Bill, 
  On my M17, only the top half of the transom was reinforced with glassed
in plywood. The ladder had to mount into the lower area, so I had 3/4
inch plywood glassed into the lower half (full width) which bonded to the
hull and the upper reinforced area. Very strong. Probably overkill, but I
also mounted an adjustable motor mount on the other side at the same time
and wanted plenty of strength. I did try mounting the ladder first with
just a backing plate (about a 6X8 piece of starboard, double thickness)
for each bracket, but didn't like the way the whole area flexed when
weight was put on the ladder.
