I think some here have been reading it as "large network operators". I guess the list is just for the express use of Level 3, Sprint, AT&T and Verizon, then. I actually agree with your sentiment. MANOG is a place to learn. I've learned quite a bit in my early days from interaction with the people of NANOG, if not really a whole lot from the mailing lists or the presentations at the conferences.
