[newbie] gcc - not found

[KEISYA]

I've MANDRAKE6.0 run on my desktop now and don't know what to do next. SO
I started to try installing my first dowloaded program of the form
***.tar.gz. But when I ran ./configure I got error gcc - not found. I've
been told that gcc is not installed. How to solve this problem..? I
installed form the MANDRAKE CD and did not which option containing this
gcc.
