Run "cdrecord -atip dev=0,0,0" or whatever you dev is, and the CD will report what speeds it's good for. I was surprised to find a set new CDs I that bought said they had a minimum speed of 4. I was surprised at the time, but it makes more sense now, considering laser power levels. Miark
