So, you see it in the HARDWAREDRAKE?
Have you fired up SANE to see if it's recognized?

(This is what I get from running sane-find-scanner)

[root@kilgore_trout bin]# ls *sane*
sane-config sane-find-scanner xsane xsane-gimp

[root@kilgore_trout bin]# sane-find-scanner
# Note that sane-find-scanner will find any scanner that is connected
# to a SCSI bus and some scanners that are connected to the Universal
# Serial Bus (USB) depending on your OS. It will even find scanners
# that are not supported at all by SANE. It won't find a scanner that
# is connected to a parallel or proprietary port.

So, if your scanner is connected to USB or a SCSI card, it should be
found (God willing that your scanner is in there) - and keep in mind
that the good people that put together S.A.N.E. always have updates...

...I just saw some backends that I want to download from there...
