man pages are not meant to be a hand holding how-to document (though recently, some apps are using them as such). If you want to know how to use a command/app, read a how-to, do a google from a tutorial, don't read the man page. man pages are meant to refresh you memory about a command's function and it's options.


which is where they are great. So please, don't tell newbies that they are the first port of call.
