As a programmer:

Documenting a program is a good and worthwhile activity; like going to the dentist. However documentation is like sex; when it's good it's wonderful, and when it's bad it's still better than nothing.


man pages are not meant to be a hand holding how-to document (though recently, some apps are using them as such). If you want to know how to use a command/app, read a how-to, do a google from a tutorial, don't read the man page. man pages are meant to refresh you memory about a command's function and it's options.
