no it's something else, I read , install=/boot/boot.b
These entries tell LiLo where some files it needs are located. '/boot/boot.b' is a symlink pointing to either of these files: boot-graphic.b for a graphical boot screen, boot-menu.b for a text menu boot screen and boot-text.b for a simple command line boot interface.
Two switch between these interfaces, just change the symlink: ln -sf boot.b boot-[...].b. so, ln -sf boot.b boot-menu.b for text script ln -sf boot.b boot-graphic.b for gui script ln -sf boot.b boot-text.b for simple text script
I'm about to give ln -sf boot.b boot-menu.b a go, so if I'm wrong you know why I'm not around for a while. I've issued the command now, If I understand this correctly it switches the ymlink from boot-graphic.b to boot-menu.b
Thanks Mike of [EMAIL PROTECTED] for the suggestion to read.
Later ==== Well I didn't lock myself out but the change didn't work, I gave the wong command, but I've become more cautious
I still cannot see what should be changed to what if any ?
here is my /boot directory with symlinks,

So what symlink should be switched to what ?
John
Later Still ======= My lilo.conf says, install=/boot/boot.b
OK, but according to the above, boot.b -> lilo/boot.b is symlinked to lilo/boot.b
OK, but I think it ought to point to /lilo-menu/boot.b for boot-menu.b for a text menu boot screen
Does this make sense ?
John
Hi John,
I boot to run level 3 and use Xtart to get to my window managers. I use lilo in text mode which is a small blue window with the choices. If your talking about the big blue splash screen kinda like a monitor inside of a monitor that shows boot messages, I tried once before to find a way to disable it but to no avail. Even when I did my install I tried to deselect it from the individual packages on MDK but, when I tried to do that it wanted to remove an enormous amount of KDE packages! So I went ahead and installed it.
Read a post about this, doing a google and one recommendation was to.
[EMAIL PROTECTED] root]# rpm -e --nodeps bootsplash
I tried it and it got rid of the big blue splash screen on boot up. This I'm certain this not the right way, must be some config file to disable it. But as I said no more splash on boot and shutdown.
Hope someone has the answer I would like to know my self.
Mike
